Shared Waters, Shared Power: Mainstreaming Gender Equality in Mano Shared Waters, Shared Power: Mainstreaming Gender Equality in Mano River Basin Water Governance

Status: Ongoing

TNC implemented the IUCN-funded BRIDGE Gender Mainstreaming and Women's Leadership Grants to empower women along the Mano River Basin.

To address gaps that will institutionalise women’s leadership, strengthen long-term participatory platforms, and ensure that gender perspectives are fully integrated into basin-wide management and decision-making processes, TNC achieved the following:

• Comprehensive Gender Assessment

• Training modules that mainstream gender in water resources management

• Built the capacity of 75 women in leadership and community-based water resources management in 3 communities (Bamballa, Jay-juah and Kpesseh) in Grand Cape Mount County along the Mano River Basin in Liberia.

• Established Peer-learning and mentorship networks

• Supported the 3 communities’ women in conducting awareness-raising on the importance of women in water resource governance and decision-making

• Documented and amplified rural women’s knowledge in watershed conservation practices
