Representing The Nature Compact to support NRM policy development.
We served in two capacities - as a Panelist - where we elevated issues associated with:
- Need to develop a localized benefit sharing trust fund regime
- Integrate Health Safety and Environment (HSE) and OHS Compliance in ASM activities,
- Review of Mine Disaster Prevention and Control Directive
- Introduce monitoring and concurrent mine reclamation systems,
- Periodic joint interagency environmental and safety audits
- That Government should invest Geologically Investigations to delineate mineral deposit to reduce forest degradation
- Access to finance, organizational support for local cooperatives
- Integrate Environmental and Social Safeguards and Governance
- increase support for local community forest governance and protected area management
- Detailed assessment of livelihood options around ASM sites
As a dialogue Moderator, we engaged with SIDA, USAID , WORLDBANK ,USEmbassy, GIZ to harness their respective investments and interventions in the ASM sector as well as support for the development for the ASM Formulation and Regulation Actions.
The dialogue with national and subnational stakeholders continues.
