Empowering Communities, Protecting Forests

17 November 2025

Under the FAO-funded Community-Based Forest Management Project, The Nature Compact is finalizing the FDA-approved 9-step process to create Authorized Forest Communities.

Working with Tarkpoima, GbamahLomeh, and Mafala communities in Gbarpolu and GrandCapeMount, we’ve helped develop Community Forest Management Plans (#CFMPs)which is the blueprint turning forest rights into real, sustainable action.

With the expansion of agriculture in the Northwest forest landscape, achieving protection status of over 40,000 hectares of pristine tropical forests in the area will increase opportunities for species conservation and habitat protection.

Basically, these CFMPs will:

1. Ensure SustainableForestry

2. Define community priorities

3. Reduce conflict & ensure accountability

4. Balance conservation & livelihoods

5. Strengthen #LocalOwnership & empowerment

Thanks to FDA, communities, donors, and partners for making community-led forest management a reality.
