Sustaining Our Commitment to Environmental and Conservation Education

17 November 2025

Today in Cestos City, Rivercess County, we deepened our commitment to nurturing the next generation of environmental and conservation leaders. Our work continues to demonstrate that meaningful conservation begins with informed, inspired, and empowered young people.

Through support from the European Union (EU) under our Protecting Biodiversity Through Law Enforcement and Community-Led Initiatives project, The Nature Compact staff engaged students participating in our growing network of environmental clubs. As part of this effort, we donated a variety of educational and outreach materials designed to strengthen their ability to conduct awareness activities within their communities. To date, we have over 250 students actively engaged in this initiative in the Northwest and Southeast forest landscapes of Liberia.

These materials are more than simple tools—they are investments in young people who will shape the future of conservation in and around the Cestos–Senkwein Proposed Protected Area (CSPPA). Our intention is to cultivate youth ambassadors who can drive participation, elevate awareness, and foster community ownership in the protection of Liberia’s forests, wildlife, and natural resources.

The event brought together a diverse group of county stakeholders who share a mutual vision for environmental stewardship. Among those receiving the donated materials were the Rivercess County Education Officer, a representative from the Office of the Rivercess County Superintendent, the Cestos High School administration, and the leadership of the school’s Environmental and Conservation Club. Their presence underscores the strong local support for youth-led conservation initiatives.

At The Nature Compact, we remain a steadfast partner to the Forestry Development Authority-FDA and the Environment Protection Agency - EPA. Together, we are committed to ensuring that citizens—especially youth—are engaged, empowered, and equipped to participate actively in the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of Liberia’s rich biodiversity and environment.

Our collective actions today are planting the seeds of stewardship that will continue to grow for generations to come.
